NDIS life skills development in Brisbane

Skills stick when you learn them in real life. EDS helps young people build the everyday skills that lead to independence, with support that is practical, patient and never patronising.

Young person celebrating getting their P plates

What this looks like

  • Meal planning, shopping and cooking
  • Budgeting and handling money with confidence
  • Learning to use public transport and get around safely
  • Communication and social skills in real situations
  • Working toward milestones like getting a licence

“Since the team at EDS has become a part of our family, my boy has thrived in many areas. Every day he asks when do I see 'The Boys'.”

How we do it

We start with what the young person wants to be able to do, then break it into steps that feel achievable. The goal is to build skills they can use without us, not to create dependence.

Sessions are active. Expect to be out and doing things rather than sitting through a worksheet.

Funding

Depending on the plan, this kind of support can sit under Core Supports or Capacity Building. We can help you check how it applies to your plan.

Questions

What kind of skills can you work on?

It's led by the person's goals. Common areas are cooking, money, travel, communication and routines. If you have something specific in mind, ask us.

Do you work with people who have never done this before?

Yes. Starting from zero is completely fine. We go at the person's speed and celebrate the small wins.

How do you track progress?

We keep it simple and tied to the goals in the plan, and we're happy to share updates with participants, families and support coordinators.
