Innovative community participation for young people

Some of the best support doesn't look like support at all. EDS builds activity programs around sport, fitness, music and creativity, so young people are excited to turn up.

Young people and EDS staff at a field day

What this looks like

  • Sport and fitness sessions with a team around you
  • Music and creative activities
  • Special events and field days
  • Trying things that are new, with people who back you
  • Activities that build confidence and friendships as a side effect

“I've been able to do so many different things in the community as well as being able to hang out with the other boys for Friday night activities.”

Cohen H., EDS client

How we do it

If it's fun, people come back. That's the whole idea. The skills, confidence and friendships happen because young people are doing things they enjoy.

What's on changes with the group. Talk to us about what's currently running and what you'd like to see.

Funding

Funding for this type of support depends on the plan. It may sit under Core Supports or Capacity Building. Send through the details and we'll check it with you.

Questions

What kinds of programs do you run?

It changes with the interests of the people we support. Recent activities have included sport, fitness, music and outings. Ask what's coming up.

Can I suggest an activity?

Yes, please do. A lot of our best ideas come from the young people themselves.

Do I need experience in sport or music?

No. Turn up and give it a go. Nobody is judged on how good they are.

Let's talk.

Tell us about your young person and what they're into. We'll take it from there.
